A roadmap to rule them all
There’s something that Bojack Horseman, the Netflix animated show, reflects like no other piece of media I’ve ever seen. What happens the day after you reach that milestone that’s supposed to bring you happiness? What does the day after that look like?
Picture this. You’re 10 again. You’ve been saving for months to buy a PC game (or a toy, a bike… you get what I mean, right?) you wanted to play for ages. Some days you can’t sleep. Most other days you dream of it.
The anticipation is a double-edged sword. It brings you joy, but also desperation. You can’t wait for the day you have exactly 60€ in your piggy bank because that day you’ll go to the store, get the game and be the happiest person in the world forever, right?
Right?
If you’re 10, chances are the answer is yes, because life is simpler at that age. However, after you turn 20-25, things look different. And at 30… I’m not even gonna get into that, because I’m closer to 40 now.
Bojack Horseman’s doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to giving answers. One day, THE day, you climb up there, you’re at the top of the world. The next day, you’re looking into a void because there’s a terrifying question looming around your head: what now?
There are a lot of things (good and bad) to learn from Bojack Horseman, but maybe the main one (at least for me) is to understand how we think happiness works and how it really works. The difference between the two is big. BIG.
It’s about understanding that no matter how promising a big goal looks, there’s going to be a rebound. And that’s OK. If you don’t make your emotional wellbeing depend too much on reaching that goal, you’ll be able to land gracefully the following day instead of falling into the pit.
But I’m really getting into a dangerous zone. I’m here preaching about wellbeing, stability and happiness as if I had any sort of authority to do it. I’ll be straight with you: I don’t. I just wanted to talk about what’s coming next for Autonome. I guess re-starting watching Bojack Horseman last night gave me a little inspiration to take a secondary road.
That’s OK.
So… what now?
I’m going all in on Autonome, of course, while I keep learning iOS Development. Check what’s planned for the app in the short, medium and long terms. Disclaimer: some of these features might change, depending on convenience, time and my own (lack of) expertise. I’ll update this roadmap from time to time in new posts of Something Else to reflect the changes.
